EN-AR-CO Booster
All images are from the authors collection, unless otherwise noted.
Below is an example of The EN-AR-CO Booster, a monthly publication produced by the National Refining Company for its extensive dealer network. In 1925, the company had 109 branch offices and tens of thousands of service stations, garages, stores, and other businesses where EN-AR-CO products were sold.
The Booster was sent to businesses that subscribed to the publication and displayed the six-foot Boy and Slate sign. One of the interesting features, shown on page two of this issue, was the EN-AR-CO-GRAMS. These short sayings were intended to be painted on the slate portion of the sign and changed every other day, providing dealers with a fresh advertising message to share with their customers.
The Booster included many other features as well, including company news, testimonials from dealers and customers, advertising aids, display ideas, and introductions to new products. It offered dealers useful information and practical ideas to help them promote EN-AR-CO products in their businesses.
The EN-AR-CO Booster was introduced in February 1925 and continued publication until July 1939. I have almost a complete set of these publications, with only eight issues apparently missing from my collection.
I hope you enjoy looking through this issue and getting a glimpse into the way the National Refining Company communicated with and supported its dealers nearly a century ago.
